Urspr\u00fcnglich sollten iPhone-Nutzerinnen und Nutzer damit die Verf\u00fcgbarkeit anderer sehen.<\/p>\n<p>Ein paar Monate nach dem Start, als Apple Push-Benachrichtigungen zulie\u00df, sahen die Gr\u00fcnder die Chance, Nachrichten an die Status-Benachrichtigungen zu h\u00e4ngen. So wurde WhatsApp zu einem echten Messenger.<\/p>\n<p>Noch im selben Jahr wuchs WhatsApp rasant und hatte schnell Hunderttausende Nutzerinnen und Nutzer. Die App lief nun auch auf Android.<\/p>\n<p>Im Vergleich zu E-Mail funktioniert WhatsApp viel schneller und einfacher. Keine Fummelei mit E-Mail-Adressen oder komplizierten Server-Einstellungen. Gegen\u00fcber SMS punktet WhatsApp, weil App und Nachrichten kostenlos sind. Allenfalls fallen Datenkosten an, die die meisten per WLAN oder Handyvertrag abdecken. Und im Vergleich zu \u00e4hnlichen Apps hat WhatsApp die Nase vorn, weil es auf allen Handytypen l\u00e4uft.<\/p>\n<p>Als Facebook, heute Meta, WhatsApp 2014 kaufte, hatte die App bereits fast eine halbe Milliarde Nutzer und bot unter anderem Foto- und Video-Sharing sowie Gruppen-Chats. Kurz nach der \u00dcbernahme kamen Sprach- und Videoanrufe dazu und die Nutzung wuchs weiter stark. Heute verwenden \u00fcber 2,7 Milliarden Menschen WhatsApp mindestens monatlich und es werden t\u00e4glich mehr als 1 Milliarde Nachrichten ausgetauscht.
