In the UK & EU, it is mandatory for commercial parties to comply with the WCAG guidelines
The guidelines for digital accessibility have been tightened. The European Accessibility Act (EAA) applies to any business, regardless of location, that offers products or services to consumers in the EU.
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 contains a wide range of recommendations to make web content more accessible. Your email templates should be optimised on the basis of these guidelines.

Do I need to worry if I only do business in the UK?
Although this update is an EU one, UK organisations must still ensure full compliance with both the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 and the Equality Act 2010. As outlined on the GOV.UK website, businesses must meet the WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility standard.
For every organisation this is recommended: the more accessible your email template, the better the ease of use. This is not only essential for an inclusive user experience, but also to avoid costly legal consequences.
So, wherever you are doing business, for just £500, let Spotler help you on your way with our email accessibility check.
What can you expect from our email accessibility check?

Check and advice on sufficient contrast between text and background
To improve readability, it is advisable to ensure sufficient contrast between text and background. In the template and/or the message we can do a check and give advice on whether they comply with the guidelines.
Check and advise on font size
Both on desktop and on mobile we recommend a clearly legible font size. Based on the guidelines, we check the template and/or the message and give advice on what you can adjust.

Accessibility for screen readers
A screen reader needs instructions to read the mail correctly. We put this in the right places in the HTML. We also add a title so that the screen reader does not accidentally read the HTML code.
We also check the following points in the template and/or messages on the basis of the WCAG:
- The Images and Alt Texts
- The link texts and CTA buttons
- Multimedia and Moving Elements
- Focus and Interaction
What you’ll get back
After performing the check, we will send an email with our findings and possibly an additional proposal for adjusting one or more templates. This proposal is entirely without obligation. You will also receive our infographic with more information about which parts you can adjust when creating a new message.
